Formation Ministry Meeting

"Formation" is the word we use to talk about our ministries of education to all ages, our music ministry, and our commitment to welcome. Christ calls us to be the Church just as we are, but never leaves us that way. We are continually shaped and formed by one another and the Spirit we encounter as the Church. We think our forming is important, so we're inviting you to meet all together in order to vision, plan, and "form" our formation for this next year! All people are invited!

Hope Kickball Game

As a people of faith, we are constantly being re-created into God’s holy community. Sometimes this re-creation comes through recreation and play. As the culminating activity for “The Places Hope Takes You” sermon series, we will gather together at Roe Park (107th and Roe) for a friendly kickball game and a cookout. We will share stories about the places we found hope in the last month and enjoy a game of kickball between Village on Mission and Village on Antioch members. Then we will share in a cookout together using one of the picnic shelters. Bring your folding chairs. All ages are welcome. Persons will need to park and walk to the picnic shelter. If you are not a kickball player, come cheer for the teams!

Prayer for the City

The Psalmist calls upon God’s people to “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem” so that all who live in her walls will find peace and security (Psalm 122). We’ll join to pray for Kansas City as we stand looking out over the city from the WWI memorial site. We will pray and sing that our city will be a place of hope. With the recent violence in our world, we will expand our prayer to all our nation and those affected by violence in these days. The prayer service will last 30 minutes. There is no seating. All ages welcome. Parking is free in and around the memorial site but persons need to walk to the memorial and the overlook.

Led by Rev. Tom Are, Jr., senior pastor, Will Breytspraak, director of music, and Dr. Rodger Nishioka, senior associate.

Cider & Hymn Sing

Hope comes in many forms and one place of hope can be around a campfire singing hymns and drinking hot cider. Come to VOA for singing and community-making around a fire pit. There will be a “s’mores bar” and plenty of cider.

Fun Fact:  Nov. 3 is “World Community Day” and the global theme this year is “Kindling New Fires for Peace.” Come join with the whole world to sing praises to God in hope of peace. Dress is casual and persons will need to walk on grass to gather around the fire pit. There will be hay bales for seating. You are invited to bring your folding chairs as well.
